  • Activity: Animal Assisted Crisis Intervention Course. This 4 day, intensive workshop is an opportunity to take the therapy work you do with your dog a step further. Handlers and their registered therapy dogs will train to become a crisis response team. Individuals without a dog may also attend the training to become a team leader.
The training will be presented by Cindy Ehlers and Debby Ganser of AACR Team Training. Ehlers, her dog Tikva, and three other AACR trained teams were asked by the American Red Cross to help in the relief efforts after the September 11 terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center Towers. They assisted in the emotional support and comfort of family members to Ground Zero, and also with the emergency responders who worked at the site. AACR certified teeams have assisted in local emergencies and incidents as well as national disasters such as Hurricanes Katrina and Rita and teh more recently Virginia Tech tragedy.
There is a pressing need to assist people in emotional crisis and trauma through the use of specially trained animal/handler teams. AACR is oneof the few organizations that offer this training in the United States and we are thrilled to be bringing it to Pup 'N Iron. Space is limited to 10 animal/handler teams so register early. This workshop WILL fill quickly.
