How to become an Animal-Assisted Therapy (AAT) Applications I Instructor
Welcome
Thank you for your interest in becoming an AAT Applications I Instructor for Delta Society! The training and evaluation process to become an Instructor is a multifaceted process. This enables Delta Society to select qualified instructors and empowers instructors to be thoroughly prepared to teach the course. This document outlines the steps necessary to become an AAT Applications I Instructor.
Four major steps to becoming a licensed AAT Applications I Instructor:
Step 1:
Prerequisites
Status as a human healthcare professional.
Complete the AAT Applications I course. Check the Delta Society web site calendar ( www.DeltaSociety.org) to find dates, times, and locations.
Complete the AAT Instructor Qualifications form and written pre-test. (These items can be downloaded from the Delta Society web site.) Submit both to Delta Society for scoring. Applicants must demonstrate that they meet criteria both on their qualification form and in their score on the pre-test. You must pass the pre-test at 80 percent or better.
Delta will notify you of your pre-test results and instructions for ordering materials.
Step 2:
Course Work
Purchase and complete the AAT Applications I Instructor Home-Study module and take the home-study written test. Submit the test to Delta Society for scoring. You must pass the written test at 80 percent or better to be eligible to take the AAT Instructor Practical Evaluation. Cost: $70 plus shipping/handling.
Delta will notify you of your pass / fail status and next steps.
Step 3:
Practical Evaluation
Attend an AAT Instructor Practical Evaluation and pass at 80 percent or better.
The practical evaluation gives prospective AAT Applications I Instructors opportunity to demonstrate not only their knowledge of the topic, but also their presentation skills. Students will receive invaluable real-time feedback, and will integrate that feedback into their presentation prior to the end of the day. Cost: $150 (may vary +/- by location)
If you do not pass the practical evaluation, you may retake it within one year for a nominal fee.
Delta will notify you of your pass / fail status and next steps.
Step 4:
Paperwork
Once you have passed all fours steps, submit your two-year licensure fee. Delta actively promotes the AAT Applications 1 course and refers facilities and other healthcare organizations seeking consultation, presentations, and in-services to AAT Applications I Instructors.
