"Improving human health through service and therapy animals."
Our vision is a world in which people are healthier and happier because companion, therapy, and service animals share our everyday lives.
Delta Society is an international, non-profit organization that unites people who have mental and physical disabilities and patients in healthcare facilities with professionally trained animals to help improve their health.
The Pet Partners Program trains volunteers and screens pets for participation in animal visiting and therapy programs in hospitals, nursing homes, rehabilitation centers and schools.
The goal of the National Service Dog Center is to assist people with disabilities in achieving greater independence and surmounting barriers in their environment through service dogs.
The Center provides referrals and information to people with disabilities with service animals facing discrimination or seeking a service dog through its web site at www.deltasociety.org.
Delta Society is developing the Service Dog Education System , which is for people who want to learn how to train service dogs.
Activities that educate individuals and families on how companion animals improve their health and well-being in everyday life.
Delta Society's twice-yearly magazine, Interactions, is available to members and features stories on how animals improve the quality of the lives of the people with whom they interact. Membership dues start at $50 and are tax-deductible.
Delta Society's Beyond Limits™ Awards
Delta Society's Beyond Limits Awards recognize outstanding animal companions that improve the health and well-being of people through their work. Each year, Delta Society honors the very best in the field of the human-animal bond. Each of the winners, and the nominees, have made a significant impact on the lives of the people and animals they touch.
Service Animals are recognized for the work they do for their owners (e.g., alerting to the telephone, retrieving dropped items, and even helping with the laundry). These animals have remarkable sensitivity and ability and provide their owners with greater independence.
Therapy Animals are recognized for the love they share and the hope and assistance they bring to children and adults in rehabilitation centers, hospitals and nursing homes.
